Skelemania is the embodiment of what is described as a “Metroid” style game. An entire map to uncover piece by piece, discovering new abilities that require you to backtrack to previous areas to unlock new parts of an insanely large map. This is 2D platforming at the height of its popularity and Skelemania has it. Secrets galore, puzzling statements from skittish frogs, and unraveling the story that brought it all together, Skelemania should be on the top of anyone’s playlist.
Starbreak is an MMO 2D action platformer that provides fun environments to explore and enemies to combat. A strong willed 16-bit feel, Starbreak takes a different look on the RPG aspects with no traditional leveling system. Select from four different players to match your playset, Starbreak does have what it takes to be a fun game. Not having a group of friends to play with may leave you stranded in the back with little to do or loot to collect.
The Wizard is a browser turn based fantasy puzzle game that will have you mapping out your moves, turn by turn, to collect treasure and new spells. Using a fun, unique spell casting system, you’ll chase down a thief through dungeons under the Wizard’s Academy. Fairly difficult challenge without a checkpoint system may leave most abandoning the game early on. But fans of Advance Wars and Final Fantasy Tactics will enjoy the atmosphere and planning required to move level to level.
Divekick is a 2D fighter consisting of only two buttons built on a foundation of a simple move popularized by fighting games like the ones from Capcom. Trust me when I said that there is a great amount of depth and strategic gameplay available offering multiple characters to choose from, specials, and enhancements to tailor your fighter to your style. Local multiplayer and story modes are available which offer hours of enjoyment, but prepare to wait in an empty room while trying to connect to an online match.
Terrordrome: Rise of the Boogeymen is a free 2D fighting game that will have an horror fan smiling from ear to ear to finally have the chance to answer the question “Who would win in a fight?” Consisting of popular franchises spanning the 70s, 80s, and 90s with the likes of Michael Myers, Jason Voorhees, and Freddy Krueger, you and a friend can battle to the death with some of the biggest names in the horror genre. Well constructed combo system, beautiful 3D models, but a poor U.I., Terrordrome is an excellent addition in the indie fighting sphere.
